The Kerala backwaters are a labyrinthine chain of brackish lakes, lagoons, rivers and canals covering an area of some 900km along the Malabar Coast, they have been compared to the Bayou in the States, (without the crocodiles) and a breeze block version of Venice. These analogies fail to explain that the village communities here haven’t changed that much over time.
